Teddy Zee is a Chinese American film & television producer with over thirty years of experience in Hollywood. He served as EVP at Columbia Pictures, SVP at Paramount Pictures, President of Sony-based Overbrook Films, and President of Fox-based Davis Entertainment. Best known for such films as Pursuit of Happyness, Hitch and Charlie’s Angels, the movies Zee produced or supervised have amassed over $2.6 billion in revenue. He is a member of Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (Oscars), Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Emmys) and Producers Guild of America. Zee has built an active global advisory practice bridging Hollywood with the rest of the world for companies interested in the convergence of content, commerce, and technology.
Zee is Board Member for NASDAQ listed SPAC, Newbury Street Acquisition Corporation which announced its merger with Infinite Reality. He serves as Co-Founder & Chief Business Officer for MINTX, a Web3 based venture backed by Alumni Ventures Group, Dapper Labs, and Ripple. Zee has also taken an active role in business development and strategy for Ideas Lab and their golf AI product, Xview.
Zee has advised or consulted for companies like KPOP’s SM Entertainment; Vizio, a leading HDTV maker; Ford Models, the iconic 75-year-old global modeling agency; Readlee, an AI based ed tech solution; PureForm Global, a biotech company that synthesizes CBD; Tapas Media, a platform for creators of mobile-based web-stories; Korean streaming platform Watcha; Biola University’s School of Cinema & Media Arts; Oben, a computer vision and AI venture; SmartStudy, the Korean animation company behind Baby Shark; Meitu, the Chinese photo and video app company; Starmaker, the user-generated music and video; and Ooyala, a leading online video platform company. Zee also served as Head of Creative, Mobile Technologies Division for Rambus. They acquired Silicon Valley interactive media start-up Mozaik Multimedia, where Zee held the post of Chief Creative Officer.
Zee is Producer of King of KPOP, a documentary film about Korean visionary Sooman Lee, set up at Amazon Prime Video and expected to premiere in 2024. Zee was Executive Producer of Pursuit of Happyness ($360 million in worldwide ticket sales) and Producer of Hitch, ($365 million in total revenue). Zee also produced West 32nd which was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival and Saving Face starring Joan Chen, selected by the Sundance and Toronto Film Festival. Zee was the Executive Producer of Life or Something Like It, starring Angelina Jolie; Asian Excellence Awards that was broadcast on E! and AZN-TV to 100 million homes in the US; Quantum Quest, a 3-D CGI animated film made by Taiwan’s Digimax in cooperation with NASA; Mashbox, a TV series for Myx TV which one won the NAMIC Vision Award for Digital Media – Long Form; and Bachelor Vietnam, based on the popular Bachelor reality show format owned by Warner Bros.
As EVP of Production at Columbia Pictures, Zee oversaw such films as Anaconda, Cable Guy, Charlie’s Angels, Devil’s Own, First Knight, Fools Rush In, Hero, Mo Money, My Girl, and Sleepwalkers. Zee championed Chow Yun Fat’s Hollywood debut in Replacement Killers. As SVP of Productions at Paramount Pictures, he shepherded such films as Cousins, Indecent Proposal, Presidio and Star Trek VI.
He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS from Cornell University. Zee was inducted into the Robert Chinn Foundation’s Asian Hall of Fame in 2011. Since 2007, Zee has been a member of Committee of 100, an organization comprised of a select group of Chinese American leaders. Zee co-founded the Committee of 100 Leadership & Mentoring Program in LA, which has graduated over 200 young professionals. He was President and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Koreatown Youth + Community Center in Los Angeles.
