Chairman, WI Harper Group
Peter Liu is the founder and Chairman of WI Harper Group. With 20 years of experience in venture capital, Mr. Liu is widely regarded as a pioneer of venture capitalists in Asia. In 1985, he was invited by the Taiwan government to help birth the venture capital community.
Born in Beijing and raised in Taipei, Mr. Liu was educated at the University of California, Berkeley. His diverse background gave him the advantage to foster economic cooperation between numerous leading enterprises of US and greater China. Mr. Liu has helped raise 7 China-related funds with WI Harper from its headquarters in San Francisco and branch offices in Beijing and Taiwan.
WI Harper’s portfolio includes over 100 companies in high growth area of information technology, life sciences and renewable energy. WI Harper Group was reported as a “super conservative venture capitalist firm” in China. With the outstanding performance by MJ Group and iKang, its healthcare portfolio companies, WI Harper was awarded the “Most Influential Investment Institution of China Healthcare Industry” in December 2008.
Apart from being an avid WEF member, Mr. Liu holds several directorships on Committee of 100, The 1990 Institute and San Francisco Shanghai Sister City Committee. He is a member of the Pacific Council, The Atlantic Council of the U.S., Honorary Board Member of the Hua Yuan Science Technology Association and founder of Monte Jade Association and Taipei VC Association.
