Dr. Karen Eng

President and CEO, CSMI

Dr. Karen Eng is seasoned entrepreneur and executive with a track record over 28 years of driving business growth, building strategic relationships, and leading organizational impact.  She has successfully guided her businesses and multiple non-profits from early stage into established organizations with a national presence.  Dr. Eng is the President and CEO of CSMI, a leading engineering firm specializing in FDA and USDA-regulated industries. Starting as an optometrist, Dr. Eng built her practice into a successful business, which was ultimately acquired.  She transitioned from her medical practice to purchase CSMI. Her leadership quickly propelled CSMI to new heights, expanding its reach on a global scale.

Under her guidance, CSMI has become a top-tier engineering consulting firm, serving both domestic and international markets. Her expertise and strategic collaborations with organizations such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), the International Trade Administration (ITA), and the Export-Import Bank of the United States have strengthened the firm’s reputation as a trusted leader in regulatory compliance and engineering solutions.  Dr. Eng has expanded her business interests to support a wide variety of minority and women-owned businesses.

Beyond her business achievements, Dr. Eng is passionate about leveraging her skills to support mission-driven organizations. She has applied her skills and strategic knowledge of strong governance, financial stewardship, and collaborative leadership to drive meaningful change in multiple nonprofit organizations: growing them into national prominence. She is an advocate and recognized leader supporting interests for women, minorities, and young entrepreneurs, championing their success in traditionally underrepresented fields.

With a deep passion for community service and a talent for bridging connections, she has brought an effective, results-driven approach to nonprofit board service, ensuring that organizations thrive, such as serving as the Chairman of both Asian & Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) and National Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship (ACE).  In addition to her Committee 100 membership, Dr. Eng also serves on the New England College of Optometry Board of Trustees as well as formerly on the boards of Girl Scouts and the YWCA.  In recognition of her outstanding contributions to business and community service, Dr. Eng has received prestigious awards from the Illinois State Treasurer and the Illinois Secretary of State for her excellence in leadership and business.

Dr. Eng received her Doctorate from the New England College of Optometry, a B.S. in Biochemistry/Biology from UC San Diego.
