New York, NY (October 6, 2023) — Committee of 100, a non-profit organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today released the following statement ahead of the upcoming bipartisan U.S. Senate delegation visit to China, Japan, and Korea.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will lead the trip with lead Republican Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID). Joining them will be Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), John Kennedy (R-LA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA).
“We applaud the bipartisan U.S. Senate delegation for their commitment to fostering improved global dialogues with countries where many of the U.S. population have ancestral, familial, or economic ties,” said Cindy Tsai, Interim President of Committee of 100.
“We at Committee of 100 hope this trip will provide an opportunity for open and candid discussions on our shared interests in the global economy and health. It’s an occasion to promote people-to-people exchanges and the sharing of ideas with China, Japan and Korea, and continuing efforts to maintain strong relationships with Asian nations.
“We are especially pleased to learn of reports suggesting the delegation’s intent to engage with leadership from People’s Republic of China, including President Xi Jinping. While no single meeting can instantly resolve long-standing challenges, we urge leaders from all nations to approach these meetings with an open and cooperative spirit.”
