Committee of 100’s Next Generation Leaders Launch ‘Asianticity’ Project Dedicated To Determining the Authenticity of AANHPIs Portrayed in Film and Television

24th March 2025

Survey Now Open, With Feedback & Results to be Unveiled at Committee of 100’s 2025 Annual Conference & Gala in Los Angeles

New York, NY — Committee of 100, a nonprofit U.S. leadership organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today announced a subcommittee from its Next Generation Leaders (NGL) Class of 2024 is launching a new research project looking at how the AANHPI community feels about how they are represented in film and television, testing the ‘Asianticity’ of projects.

The NGL subcommittee will unveil their findings at Committee of 100’s Annual Conference & Gala, this year taking place on April 25-26 in Los Angeles, California.

According to industry data, less than 30% of AANHPI consumers find U.S.-produced film and television to be authentic (1). Yet the majority of AANHPI consumers are willing to spend more money and time in entertainment projects if there is more authentic representation. The NGL subcommittee is testing this hypothesis with the creation of a survey and measurement tool called the Authenticity Rubric. The Rubric is being used to help identify and define easy-to-understand elements of authenticity that resonate with how content consumers react to a piece of content.

The survey is open now and will remain open until April 13. The main landing page on the project can be found here.

The synthesis of the community’s feedback on authenticity and ‘Asianticity’ could drive creative direction for studios and content producers in order to unlock new opportunities at revenue streams and create better connections with audiences. The result is a win-win for both the entertainment industry and the AANHPI community’s sense of inclusion through a deeper market analysis of the demand around authenticity.

Serving on the Asianticity project are NGLs Virginia Cheung, Teresa Hsu, Andrew Lee, Shawn Ma, Simon Twu, and Jackie Wong
