New York, NY (July 21, 2023) — Committee of 100, a non-profit organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today released the following statement after the recent surprise meeting between Former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger and China President Xi Jinping in Beijing this week.
Committee of 100 was founded at the urging of Dr. Henry Kissinger more than 30 years ago, through his friendship with I.M. Pei. The mission of the organization was – and still is to this day – to promote the full participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life and build constructive relations between the United States and Greater China.
“The U.S. and China share monumental global challenges such as food supply, energy security, climate change, and world peace. To help solve these problems, Committee of 100 has always promoted the importance of people-to-people relations as a means of building bridges and breaking barriers,” said Cindy Tsai, Interim President, Committee of 100. “This week’s meeting between Dr. Kissinger and President Xi, which Kissinger attended in his capacity as a private citizen, showcases the importance of friendships and how they can make a global impact. More than ever, Committee of 100 is committed to playing an integral role in connecting the peoples of U.S. and China. ”
