New York, NY (December 5, 2022) – Committee of 100, a nonprofit organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today issued a statement on a Washington Free Beacon story of December 5 that tried to tie Committee of 100 and some of its members to the Chinese Communist Party.
“The insinuations being made by the Washington Free Beacon are patently untrue and corrosive. As an American organization, Committee of 100 strongly opposes any effort by any foreign power – China or elsewhere – to influence American society and democracy. These accusations undermine the work of our community.
All Committee of 100 members are American citizens who are proud of their contributions to the United States and their Chinese heritage. It is unacceptable to call into question the loyalty and patriotism of our members, who are proud Americans who have contributed to the success and vitality of America.
For more than 30 years, our members have come together to take action to support vital U.S. interests. In the past few years alone, Committee of 100 donated 895,000 N95 masks to hospitals across the U.S. at the height of Covid-19, came out in full support of the African American, Latino American, and Jewish American communities in times of crisis, and crafted joint research that focused on exposing the racial profiling that scientists of Chinese descent face here in the U.S.
It has long been the tradition of Committee of 100 to work with political and civic leaders in the U.S., Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China to foster productive conversations. Over 30 years, Committee of 100 has held hundreds of conferences and events to bring focus, energy and attention to Chinese Americans and the issues they face.
Committee of 100 has had a dual mission for more than 30 years: promoting the full participation of Chinese Americans in American society and advancing constructive dialogue and relationships between the peoples and leaders of the United States and Greater China. We will continue to promote these missions and reject any insinuation or effort by the Washington Free Beacon to slander the conduct or intent of our organization or our members.”
