9th January 2025

New York, NY — Committee of 100, a nonprofit organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today released the following statement offering its heartfelt condolences on the passing of the 39th President of the United States Jimmy Carter. President Carter died peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia at the age of 100, the longest-lived president in U.S. history.

“President Carter was a strong advocate for civil rights and combating all forms of racism. He frequently emphasized the importance of unity and equality for all Americans, regardless of race or ethnicity. President Carter was outspoken in his concern for the rise in anti-Asian hate during the COVID-19 pandemic and joined calls for solidarity and action to protect the AAPI community from discrimination and violence. His voice will be missed.”
