New York, NY — Over the past week, there has been a significant uptick in physical assaults and xenophobia directed at the Haitian American community, a reflection of the lies and mistruths spread by pundits and elected officials. Committee of 100, a nonprofit organization of prominent Chinese Americans, issued the following statement today:
“We at Committee of 100 are outraged and saddened by the violence and verbal attacks directed at the Haitian American community. The Chinese American community knows all too well about being on the receiving end of hate and xenophobia,” said Cindy Tsai, Interim President, Committee of 100. “We deeply empathize with the innocent Haitian American lives affected by these troubling events. As a society, we cannot stand by and let racially charged language and violence persist. There is no room for hate in our country. Together, we must take action to ensure it has no place here.”
