Cyrus Tang was born in Suzhou city, in Jiangsu province of China in 1930 and came to the United States in 1950. He attended Widener University and the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he is a past member of the Board of Trustees.
Mr. Tang has been Chairman of Tang Industries, Inc. since 1971. Tang Industries, together with its affiliates operates various businesses, including steel distribution and processing; metal fabrication; aluminum die-casting, extrusions and recycling; biotech; pharmaceuticals; and investments. Tang Industries has affiliates in over forty locations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and China.
Mr. Tang is also active in philanthropy through the Tang Foundations – a group of three foundations:
- Cyrus Tang Foundation – Supporting education, healthcare, and community service in China
- Cyrus Chung Ying Tang Foundation – Supporting education, healthcare, and community service in the United States
- Tang Foundation for the Research of Traditional Chinese Medicine – Supporting research in traditional Chinese medicine
