On Saturday, July 22, 2017, Committee of 100 (C100) Chairman Frank H. Wu, C100 cofounders Henry Tang and Shirley Young, C100 members Rick Niu and Didi Pei, and other guests attended the international debut of the National Youth Orchestra of China (NYO-China) at Carnegie Hall.
The concert was the culmination of year-long efforts by the nonprofit NYO-China “to provide China’s finest young musicians access to superior training and performance opportunities, empowering them to serve as ambassadors for their country and their generation on a global stage.”
Earlier this year, NYO-China flew 100 Chinese musicians aged 14-21 years old to New York for two weeks to receive intensive training from the world’s finest musicians. The orchestra draws inspiration from Carnegie Hall’s own National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, and featured renowned conductor Ludovic Morlot accompanied by pianist Yuja Wang.
NYO-China also enjoys support from a number of celebrities and dignitaries including Ambassador Zhang Qiyue and C100 members Tan Dun, Yue-Sai Kan and Gary Locke.
