Dr. Jeremy S. Wu is a long-time advocate for civil rights and founded the APA Justice Task Force in 2015 as a platform to address racial profiling and related fairness and justice issues for the Asian Pacific American communities.
He was elected Senior Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration in 2022.
Jeremy was a senior executive and manager with the federal government, retiring from the Census Bureau after also serving at the Departments of Transportation, Energy, and Agriculture.
His pioneering Big Data work at the Census Bureau included an online mapping and reporting application that was recognized as a major U.S. statistical innovation at the United Nations in 2009.
Jeremy was Civil Rights Director at the U.S. Department of Transportation in the aftermath of 9/11, serving as the principal advisor to Secretary Norman Mineta on civil rights and equal opportunity issues. He was also Acting Chief Statistician.
From 2000 to 2002, Jeremy served as National Ombudsman for the U.S. Department of Energy and advisor to Secretary Bill Richardson, responsible for advancing a diverse, respectful, and productive workplace during the Wen Ho Lee case.
Jeremy became the first Asian Pacific American career senior executive in USDA in 1997 and served as Deputy Director from 1997 to 2000 after serving 15 years as Chief Statistician for the Marketing and Regulatory Programs. His work on extensive research and negotiations with China led to China lifting its wheat embargo in 1999.
Jeremy earned his doctorate degree in Mathematical Statistics from George Washington University. He served three terms as Chair of the Asian American Government Executives Network.
He was born in Hong Kong and speaks fluently in Cantonese and Mandarin. He is married to the former Deanie Pin and lives in McLean, Virginia.
