Zhengyu Huang to Step Down as President of Committee of 100

11th April 2023

New York, NY (April 11, 2023) – Committee of 100, a non-profit organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today announced that Zhengyu “Z” Huang has decided to step down as President of the organization, after completing his third year in the role. Z was formally announced as President of Committee of 100 in March 2020.

Since its inception in 1990, Committee of 100 has focused on the dual missions of promoting the full participation of Chinese Americans across American society and advancing constructive relations between the U.S. and Greater China.

“Z has greatly enhanced the stature of Committee of 100 and brought greater visibility and energy to the organization. Working with the members and staff, he‘s fashioned new programs and initiatives, and partnered with organizations both within and outside the AAPI community in furtherance of our dual missions,” said Gary Locke, Chair of Committee of 100. “On behalf of all of Committee of 100, we thank Z for his leadership, dedication, and service and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Committee of 100 for these three exhilarating and productive years,” said Zhengyu Huang, President of Committee of 100. “Today the dual missions of Committee of 100 are more critical than ever before. I am a true believer in the unique and critical role that the organization can and must play for our community.”

Z’s tenure has been highlighted by an increased media and public policy presence, breakthrough research and thought leadership and the advancement of partnerships within and outside the AAPI community. Among the highlights:

  • Initiated joint research with prominent academic and research institutions such as The Economist, University of Arizona, and Columbia University focused on issues such as Chinese American history, racial profiling of scientists of Chinese descent, racial bias prosecution in research, and the state of Chinese Americans today;
  • Developed and issued Committee of 100’s own state-by-state AAPI curriculum analysis, anti-Asian hate glossary, and U.S. China diplomatic language guide that has been utilized by federal and local agencies and Congressional offices; and won a Department of Justice grant to standardize anti-Asian hate incident reporting; and
  • Issued more than 100 statements and earned media quotes while forming partnerships with more than 150 AAPI and non-AAPI community organizations including Native American, Jewish American, African American, and Latin-American community groups.

Z will remain as President of Committee of 100 until sometime after Committee of 100’s Conference & Gala in May, while the organization conducts a nationwide search for his successor.
