Committee of 100, Documented, and Glow Cultural Center co-hosted the Immigrant Rights Fair, a community event dedicated to providing essential resources, legal advice, and support to immigrants on August 24, 2024.
The Immigrant Rights Fair was an inclusive and informative event, featuring workshops, informational booths, and access to legal resources. The event served as a platform to celebrate and support the immigrant community, raise awareness about immigrant rights and offer a space where immigrants can gain valuable insights and assistance. In addition, participants received free gifts, resource guidebooks, and refreshments.
Key activities at the fair included two workshops and several resource booths. The first workshop, “Report for Support—AAPI Hate Tracker Introduction,” was presented by Committee of 100. We introduced the recently announced AAPI Hate Tracker database (www.aapihatetracker.org), which allows the public in the New York City area to report incidents of hate and violence. We also discussed the importance of reporting these incidents.
The second workshop, “Immigrant Rights Tea & Talk: Myths about the ‘Public Charge’ Policy and How the Presidential Election Would Affect It,” was presented by Documented and addressed whether applying for government benefits impacts immigration status. The workshop took place in a lively environment where guests enjoyed complimentary tea and snacks and discussed their concerns as immigrants.
