New York, NY (May 19, 2023) – Committee of 100, a non-profit, U.S. leadership organization of prominent Chinese Americans, today issued the following statement congratulating Committee of 100 Member Chiling Tong on her recent appointment to serve on the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture.
Chiling is the President & CEO of the National Asian Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ACE) and has extensive domestic and international experience in economic and business development, with a focus on researching and enhancing the growth of minority-owned small businesses. She has been a Member of Committee of 100 since 2018.
“Committee of 100 is thrilled that Chiling Tong, a longtime member of our organization, has been appointed to the Commission,” said Gary Locke, Committee of 100 Chair. “Her professional expertise, and her passion for uplifting the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community, make her an excellent fit to take on this crucial and complex task. Exploring the possibility of a national museum of APA history and culture will require careful consideration, business acumen, and creative thinking—qualities that Chiling Tong unquestionably has.”
Committee of 100 has been a vocal supporter of a museum on the National Mall that tells the stories of the wide range of Americans of Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Island descent. On June 13, 2022, President Biden signed H.R. 3525 into law, creating the Commission, which will provide recommendations to Congress on the feasibility of a National APA Museum. Chiling Tong will join fellow Committee of 100 Member Dr. Jay Xu, CEO of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, on the Commission.
“As an organization, we have long advocated for a museum on the National Mall that will tell the important histories of our communities, and share our cultures,” said Committee of 100 president Zhengyu Huang. “It’s time that our stories be uplifted for what they are: a essential part of American history. We are excited that the Commission has gained yet another dedicated and qualified member in Chiling Tong.”
