The next day, Shirley Young and Holly Chang visited Minister Qiu Yuanping, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, to promote potential ways to collaborate on cultural exchanges and U.S.-China people-to-people ties. Shirley Young discussed the importance of the New-York Historical Society’s new exhibition Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion to China, noting how the exhibit demonstrates the significance of Chinese in American history, dating all the way back to George Washington. “We want everyone to see that U.S.-China relations already have more than 200 years of history,” Shirley emphasized, “not only the 35 years of official diplomatic ties.” (Media highlights of meeting: 1 and 2).
